Description

Veta Lopis and her Gammas sometime after the events of Halo: Last Light. I've noticed a lot of my pieces tend to be very static and I wanted to do something with a bit more life and story to it. For those who haven't read Last Light, the Team Saber survivors end up reassigned to a black ops unit with detective Veta Lopis (it makes more sense in the context) because Gamma Company's augmentations would become a PR issue if they were to become publicly known. I can't be the only one who thinks this team-up (hardboiled space cop & trio of teenage superhumans) would make a great premise for future stories.

Veta is up there as one of my favorite OCs from the newer Halo books. She starts out as somewhat grating but gets better as the story progresses, and her interactions with the Gamma kids are pretty enjoyable. I don't really see why they'd need to list Ash, Olivia, and Mark as KIA if they were going to be disappeared anyway (aside from the usual ONI dickery), but there's still a lot of potential where they were left in (whether that story thread will ever get picked up on, though, is another matter entirely). It's a lot better than having them be really dead anyway. And while it's a shame the joint SII-SIII Blue Team got broken up so soon, I can see there being more opportunities for individual characters to shine if they work in smaller units. Troy Denning may've had some trouble juggling all the characters in Blue Team seeing as how Tom, Lucy, Kelly, and Linda were left off-screen most of the time, and the lack of attention given to that portion of the cast was one of the few downsides of the book for me.

HOLY CANNOLI! What an amazing piece!!! How you manage to put so many details (love the various easter-eggs, btw!) into one image without making it look cluttered boggles my mind in the best possible way. :D ...I will happily adopt this image as canon in regards to Ferret Squad's doings after the events of 'Last Light'.
